Every person on the planet has something to give. We all have a unique and powerful potential that allows us to make a difference, help others, or improve a situation in some way. The question, for each of us, is…how?
What does it mean for you to give? In what way do you bring your potential into the world?
Many of us think that we have to do something ‘grand’ in order to give of ourselves. We feel we must make lots of money and fund a large charity. Or perhaps give all of our spare time to another’s needs. But this is not true. Sometimes all we need to do is be genuine and caring with just one person…giving of ourselves in a way that is meaningful to US. This is when we truly access our giving spirit.
I once read a story of a woman who had gone through a near-death experience where she exited her body and was able to see her entire life in total clarity. What she saw was that all of the ‘important’ things she had done in her life – the charity she founded, the volunteer work she had done, the large sums of money she had donated – all of this paled in comparison to the one moment in her life where she spent 45 minutes lovingly holding an orphaned autistic little boy. Her entire life, she realized, had boiled down to that one moment of true giving.
We don’t need money or time or resources to give. Poor people can give. Busy people can give. How do you give? What is your unique way of imprinting on the world?
